Amy (Irving), Carrie and Teri (Garr), circa 1977.

A couple of random pics…I don’t know where or when either of them were taken.

likeadoll:

“I meet and marry this man right here. This is Paul Simon. Paul Simon is a short Jewish singer. Eddie Fisher is a short Jewish singer. Short. Jewish. Singer. Any questions? My mother makes a blueprint and I follow it to the letter.”

Wishful Drinking (2010)

Andy Warhol commented on this interesting little factoid in his diaries. He wrote about seeing Eddie Fisher come into a New York nightclub circa 1984: “I can understand why Carrie Fisher married the Simon guy because he’s like Eddie without the curls.”

Penny Marshall talks about meeting Carrie

image

From her autobiography, “My Mother Was Nuts”:

Back in New York, Lorne (Michaels) arranged for me to meet Carrie Fisher at her place in the Eldorado on Central Park West. He was pals with singer-songwriter Paul Simon, who was dating Carrie, and they thought we’d hit it off. They were right. We’ve been best friends ever since. She and Paul were heading to St. Hip, her name for some island in the Caribbean. I helped her pack and listened to her bitch about whether she was able to keep up with Paul.

A high school dropout, she thought everyone was smarter than she was, especially Paul. In reality, she was smarter than everyone. She was brilliant. Everyone knew it. Steven (Spielberg), Lorne, and if you asked him at the right moment, Paul would’ve agreed too. Carrie read voraciously. She was funny and clever. She wrote and provided nonstop, hysterical commentary on people, movies, books, and Hollywood, where she grew up the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. She was a one-woman show thirty-five years before she did one.

Carrie likes guys wearing baseball caps.

The first pic was taken in 1979, for an interview Carrie and Harrison gave before going off to film “The Empire Strikes Back.” The second was taken in 1980; Paul was Carrie’s date to the premiere of the same movie.

I’m biased, but I think the second pic is cuter.

From 1989. Thanks to melodysustainin for alerting me to this pic.

Cute pic! Of course, in their actual scene together in the movie, Carrie was wearing clothes instead of the bikini, and Warwick was in an Ewok costume. Warwick later spoke fondly of Carrie, saying she brought him juice and cookies between takes.

What a lucky little Nelwynn.

More “dinner with Eddie” pics.

I like this photoset because it shows them happy and smiling.

At the premiere of a stand-up show by Gilda Radner.
